Mr. Oscar Onyema
Board Chairman

Oscar Onyema is the Chief Executive Officer of The Nigerian Stock Exchange, a position he assumed in April 2011. Prior to this role, he served for over 20 years in United States financial markets and the Nigerian information technology sector. Mr. Onyema is the Chairman of Central Securities Clearing System (CSCS) Plc, the clearing house for the Nigerian capital market. He is also a Council member of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers of Nigeria (CIS). He is the Vice President of the African Securities Exchanges Association.

In 2009, Mr. Onyema founded Market Strategists LLC and consulted under the Gerson Lehrman Group in the United States, successfully enabling decision-makers at investment firms and corporations better understood financial products, services, companies, and issues in global financial markets. He also served as the Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer at American Stock Exchange (Amex), which he joined in 2001. He was the first person of colour to hold that position, and was instrumental in integrating the Amex equity business into the NYSE Euronext equity business after their acquisition of Amex in 2008. He then managed the NYSE Amex equity trading business, which he helped position as a premier market for small and mid-cap securities.  

For approximately five years, Mr. Onyema served as Adjunct Lecturer of Economics at Pace University, New York. In 2008, he received the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) Series 7, 24 and 63 brokerage licenses through Seamount Execution Services LLC, a FINRA member firm in New York. He remains active in the Security Traders Association of New York, and in the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association, USA. In the late 1990s, he held various positions at New York Mercantile Exchange where he managed futures market structure initiatives. He started his post-NYSC career in Nigeria at Data Processing Maintenance and Services Ltd. (an IBM business partner) where he sold mid-range IBM systems. 

Mr. Onyema holds an MBA in Finance and Investments from Baruch College, New York. He received his Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria.


Mr. Kyari Abba Bukar
Managing Director/CEO

Mr. Kyari Abba Bukar is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Central Securities Clearing System (CSCS) Plc. Prior to joining CSCS in September 2011, Kyari was the MD/CEO of ValuCard Nigeria Plc (now Unified Payments Plc) where he achieved phenomenal successes by transforming the business from a loss making, low morale and close looped local e-payment player into a highly profitable, world-class, global payment processor in partnership with Visa International Company.

Kyari worked for FSB International Bank (now Fidelity Bank) where he rose to the position of Executive Director, E-Banking and Information Technology and Operations. Prior to that, he worked at Hewlett-Packard USA in Silicon Valley, California. He held several positions amongst which are Process and R&D Engineer, Performance Programme and Benchmarking Manager, Marketing Programme Manager and Senior IT Consultant, World Wide Technical Marketing Manager until his return to Nigeria in 2002.

 

Presently, Kyari is the Chairman of the Nigerian Economic Summit (NESG). He sits on the Board of Credit Registry Services Plc and Member of the Board of Trustees of the Investment Protection Fund of the NSE. He was one of the members of the Nigerian National Conference representing the organized Private Sector Group (NESG).

 

He holds a B.Sc. degree in Physics from Ahmadu Bello University, Nigeria; M.Sc. in Nuclear Engineering from Oregon State University, USA. He is an Alumni of Lagos Business School (LBS), Wharthon Business School and Harvard Business School.

 

Kyari is happily married and blessed with children.

Alh. Kwairanga, Umaru B.Sc (Hons), MBA, MSC, FCS
Director

Alhaji Umaru Kwairanga is the Managing Director/CEO of Finmal Financial Services Limited. Born into the family of Kwairanga in the town of Gombe in Gombe State, Alhaji Kwairanga is a Muslim. He is a well-traveled executive who attended courses and training in fields relating to the money and capital markets with reasonable knowledge of corporate governance practices. He has over 20 unquestionable years and cognate experience in banking, manufacturing and trading as well as being an active player in the capital market at a high level. He worked at the defunct New Africa Merchant Bank Limited.

Alhaji Kwairanga has achieved versatile experience by attending several courses within and outside the country among which are the Financial Institutions Training Centre (FITC) organised course on Corporate Finance and Investment Banking in Ilorin, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) organised course for senior Management in Inventory Management in Lagos, Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC) Conference on Investment in Washington DC, USA and Finance and Investment Conference in South Africa.

Alhaji Kwairanga had his First School Leaving Certificate after his primary education at the Central Primary School, Kumo in 1981, from where he proceeded to Government Science Secondary School in the same locality and obtained his West African Examination Council (WAEC) Certificate. The young Kwairanga further studied at the prestigious University of Maiduguri from 1986 to 1991 when he bagged his Bachelor's degree (B.Sc. Honours) in Business Administration. Three years later, he went to the Edo State University in Ekpoma and there after the Liverpool?s John Moore University in the United Kingdom where he got his Masters in Finance and Corporate Governance in 2007.

He is a member of several professional bodies which include the Certified Pensions Institute of Nigeria, Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers and a qualified Broker of the Abuja Commodity and Securities Exchange. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers.

Alhaji Kwairanga is a Director in CSCS Plc and the Board Chairman of Ashaka Cement Plc. He also sits on the Boards of Construction Co. Ltd, Kwainanado Nig. Ltd, Penman Pensions Ltd and Gombe United Micro Finance Bank Ltd.

He is happily married with children.

MR. Chidi Agbapu B. Sc, MBF
Director

Chidi Agbapu provides strategic leadership in our public sector advisory. He was a co-founder and the Chief Executive Officer of Emerging Capital Limited, a stock brokerage firm and member of the Nigerian Stock Exchange. Prior to joining Emerging Capital limited, he was at Prominent Securities Limited where he trained as a dealing clerk and rose to become the Chief Dealer and Head of Securities Trading.

Chidi, an avowed entrepreneur, has over two decades experience in commercial and mortgage banking in Nigeria. He commenced his career in New Nigeria Bank Plc where he was exposed to credit structuring and was a founding partner in Financial Mortgage Limited, a primary mortgage institution where, as the Head of Treasury, he was involved in loan syndication for various real estate projects. He serves as director on the boards of Central Securities Clearing system (CSCS) Plc; MTI Plc, Nigeria; MTI Limited, Ghana; General Cotton Mill Plc, Onitsha; Bendel Feeds and Flour Mills Plc; and Member, Fidelity Bank Plc Audit Committee.

Chidi holds a Bachelor's Degree in Economics from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka; Master's Degree in Banking and Finance and Masters in International Law and Diplomacy both from University of Lagos. An alumnus of the Lagos Business School (AMP14), he is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS), and an associate member of both the Certified Pension Institute of Nigeria and Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM).

Mr. Bayo Olugbemi
Director

Bayo Olugbemi is currently the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of First Registrars Limited. He holds a B.Sc degree in Accounting from the University of Lagos and a Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Lagos State University, specializing in International Business Management.

Bayo began his Investment Banking career in the Registrars Department of Union Bank of Nigeria Plc (now Union Registrars) and has pioneered many Registrar outfits such as Rims Registrars, United Securities Limited, Diamond Bank Registrars and NAL Registrars Limited (now Sterling Registrars), among many others. Bayo has extensive experience in the areas of Investment Banking and Portfolio Management.


Bayo is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), Institute of Capital Market Registrars (ICMR) and the Chartered Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (CIMN). He is also an Associate of The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), the Chartered Institute of Pension and the Institute of Directors (IoD).

He is an experienced trainer in Management, Capital Market Development and Share Registration as well as a motivational speaker of high repute. He is married with children.

Mrs. Ifueko Omoigui Okauru ,MFR
Director

Mrs. Omoigui Okauru is the current Managing Partner of Compliance Professionals Plc. and also a part-time member of the United Nations (UN) Committee of Experts on International Cooperation in Tax Matters as well as a member of the Board of Trustees of DAGOMO Foundation Nigeria (Limited by Guarantee) - a family based Non Governmental Organization geared towards community development.

Ifueko made her mark whilst at the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) as the first female Executive Chairman of the FIRS and Chairman of the Joint Tax Board (JTB) from May, 2004 to April 2012. During her tenure, she spearheaded comprehensive tax reforms that led to development of a national tax policy, modification of tax legislation and remarkable improvement in the effectiveness of Tax Administration.

From July 1996 to April 2004, she was the Chief Responsibility Officer of ReStraL Ltd. (a Leadership and Management services organization), a company she founded in 1996. She built it up from zero-base to a company par excellence. ReStraL Ltd owns the Franklin Covey (FC) license in Nigeria and other parts of West Africa. She is now a non-Executive Director in ReStraL Ltd. She also sits on the Boards of Diamond Bank Plc, Nigerian Breweries Plc, and Seplat Petroleum Development Co. Ltd.

From 1983 to March 1996, she worked across the broad spectrum of Audit, Tax and Consulting services in the firm of Arthur Andersen and Co (now split into two firms - KPMG Professional Services and Accenture). She became Partner and head of the firm's successful strategy consulting practice before her exit in 1996.

Ifueko attended St. Mary's Private School, Lagos from where she proceeded to Queen's College Yaba, Lagos (1973-78) for her "ordinary level" secondary school education where she was on a Midwestern State scholarship and won prizes especially in Mathematics. She then attended Federal Government College, Warri ("advanced level" secondary school education) on a Federal Government scholarship (1978-1980), where she completed the two-year programme as one of two best "A" levels in her year of graduation. She attended the University of Lagos (1980-83) graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting (First Class) as a Chevron (then Gulf Oil) Scholar. She also attended Imperial College, University of London (1985-86) on a Commonwealth scholarship and holds its Masters of Science degree in Management Science as well as a Diploma of the Imperial College.

Ifueko is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN).

Mr. Sola Adeeyo
Director

Mr. Sola Adeeyo is the Chairman/CEO Astral Waters Limited. He is also a Director and the owner of Protea Hotel, Oakwood Park, Lekki/Epe Way; a 65-room 4 Star international hotel brand managed by Protea Hotel Group of South Africa. He was involved in driving the project from conception through the construction years and has continued to manage the hotel in a capacity of owners' representative.

Mr. Adeeyo served as the pioneer Managing Director of Asset and Investment Limited; a company which he midwifed and where he held the position of Chief Helmsman from 1991 to 2001.

Between the periods of 1989 to 1991, Mr. Adeeyo was Director/Group Head Treasury of Investment Banking and Trust Company Limited (IBTC). He was part of the founding management/owner group that nurtured the bank from inception in 1989. At the Bank, he was responsible for treasury operations and also contributed in formulating and implementing the strategic direction of the bank.

Mr Adeeyo had a remarkable stint at the Nigeria International Bank (Citi Bank) where he worked between the periods of 1986 and 1989.

He was a pioneer member of the reconstituted treasury and foreign exchange unit responsible for policies formulation in furtherance of the Federal Government/CBN initiative to liberalize the Nation's foreign exchange policy.

Mr. Adeeyo attended State University of New York, USA where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts. He acquired a Masters of Arts in International Relations from the Northeastern University, Boston, USA in 1981.

Mr. Haruna Waziri
Director

Mr. Haruna Jalo-Waziri is an economist with over 18 years of Capital Market and Investment Management experience covering Regulation, Deal Origination, Execution as well as Fund Management. He has been involved in various successful ground breaking deals such as Heineken Euro Bond, and British American Tobacco M&A, among others.


Until his appointment, he was the MD/CEO, UBA Asset Management Limited which he led from 2009. Prior to this, he worked at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Afrinvest West Africa (formerly SECTRUST). Jalo-Waziri commenced his career in the Quotations Department at The Nigerian Stock Exchange. He also worked at Kakawa Discount House Ltd where he started the Asset Management Department and rose to become Head of Asset Management; the department eventually transformed to become Kakawa Asset Management Limited.

Mr. Jalo-Waziri is a graduate of the University of Maiduguri, an alumnus of Lagos Business School and the Venture Capital Institute of America.

Mr. Obinna Nwosu
Director

Mr. Obinna Nwosu is presently the Group Deputy Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Access Bank Plc. He possesses over two decades of banking experience garnered from Access Bank and Guaranty Trust Bank. Mr. Nwosu joined Access Bank in 2002. A seasoned banker, Obinna has held several position including Head, Retail Banking Division of the Bank until December 2012 when he took a study leave for a Masters Degree in Public Policy at Columbia University, New York. His experience spans both banking operations and relationship management.

He is a highly regarded leader of people. He holds an MBA and a Degree in Accountancy from University of Nigeria Nsukka.

Mr. Kennedy Uzoka
Director

Kennedy Uzoka, Deputy Managing Director/CEO Africa at UBA Plc holds a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Benin and an MBA from the University of Lagos. A multiple awards winner, Mr. Uzoka has over 2 decades experience covering core banking, corporate marketing, strategic business advisory services and resources management.

Kennedy currently manages the Group's operations across 18 countries in Africa. In addition to UBA Africa, he also supervises 2 key strategic support areas in e-Banking and Information Technology. Prior to his appointment as CEO UBA Africa, Mr. Uzoka supervised the Bank's businesses in New York and London. In addition to Strategic Support Groups such as HR, Legal Advisory Services, Procurement & Vendor Management, Corporate Relations & Marketing amongst others, he also had responsibility for other critical business functions including Group Treasury, International Financial Institutions & Transaction Banking, e-Banking, UBA Pensions Custodians, Consumer Banking and Cash Management Services.

He was Head, Strategy & Business Transformation of UBA Group and later Regional Bank Head, South Bank covering over 17 states in southern part of Nigeria. Prior to the merger of legacy Standard Trust Bank(STB) and United Bank for Africa(UBA), he was Regional Director-South East, Vice President-Northern Nigeria, Chief Marketing Officer? Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Marketing Officer, Lagos and later, Managing Executive Officer at STB.

He is an alumnus of Harvard Business School in Boston USA, the International Institute of Management Development (IMD) in Lausanne, Switzerland and the London Business School, United Kingdom.
He was a pioneer member of the reconstituted treasury and foreign exchange unit responsible for policies formulation in furtherance of the Federal Government/CBN initiative to liberalize the Nation's foreign exchange policy.

Mr. Mudathir OmokayodeLawal
Director

Mr. Mudathir Kayode Lawal started his career with NBM Bank where he worked from 1987 to 2005. During this period, he excelled in various marketing roles and was subsequently appointed as the bank's Treasurer. Following the consolidation exercise and the emergence of Sterling Bank in 2006, he was again assigned to marketing, to head various regions in Lagos, a testament to the confidence in his abilities on the field.

Kayode is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and has professional qualifications from the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) and Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN). He is also an alumnus of the Lagos Business School, Columbia University Graduate School of Business and University of Oxford.
